“IMPACT”

My name is Miguel, I’m 27, surfer from Portugal. I was very fortunate to travel from a young age. Seeing different realities with my own eyes made me sensible to several issues and take my own conclusions. In 2020, Corona pandemic hit and the lockdown forced everyone to slow down. It was the moment when I felt like it was time to really start taking action. I’ve always had a deep feeling that I wanted to contribute to causes somehow like social inequality, ocean pollution, preservation of waves and ecosystems and so on… Months later, I travelled to the Maldives with my dad and brother. An epic family trip aboard the “Handhu” boat surfing perfect waves. Even tough we were having the best time, since the beginning of the trip I was astonished with the amount of plastic visible to everyone’s eyes and the collective's devaluation of the problem. There was a little island full of trash right where the safari boats were parked and I felt like it was time to take action and, with the help of local crew, we cleaned up the small island! I got back home and new challenges naturally started showing up. I got more involved with several environmental projects and one of them was joining the NGO “WWF” with the mission to call people for choosing a more sustainable diet. A sustainable diet is one that is generally healthful and has a low impact on the environment and food supply. “Impact”, as the name suggests, aims to touch the viewers and motivate the inevitable change that needs to happen in the society documenting Miguel’s adventures where he’s learning about not only the problems, but some of its possible solutions as well related to the current climate crisis. The series starts by telling the story of how it all aligned for him to become more connected with the causes of environmental degradation. We believe that each of us can make the difference, and together we make a change.
